Paul takes sixth in USCS event at Malden (Video)

The USCS Touring Series made their usual stop at the Malden Speedway on Friday, July 2nd. On tap for the night were the Sprint Cars, the Outlaw Modifieds, and a grand finale fireworks show. The night started off with a bang, no pun intended, as over twenty Modifieds were in attendance for the twenty-five lap feature.

The cars were divided into three heats with Paul picking up a third place start in the second. He and Chris Moore in the #17 got tangled on lap two, which resulted in Chris retiring to the pits. The race continued without another caution as Paul and leader Robert Powers checked out from the field. Robert began to have trouble in the turns and was slowly losing his lead on Paul. Paul went in deep in turn one and nearly passed Robert, but would have to settle for second.

The top four cars were inverted in the feature, but that had no effect on Paul’s fifth place start. As the leaders began to check out, Paul found himself in a hard battle for the sixth position. Another car then came into the picture and would pass Cheater for sixth, holding on to that position for several laps. As the caution-free race started to wind down to its last laps, last place starter Chris Moore managed to reach Paul and challenge him for another position. Front-runner Jason Hughes in the #8H slowed to idle speed with four laps to go and ran the bottom for the remainder of the race. This and passing the #24 of Kenny Lovins would earn Paul two positions to finish the race sixth.

Black Ice (Video)

Track prep was excellent this weekend at the Malden Speedway, but track conditions were deemed undrivable (I understand that isn’t a word, but work with me). Cars I never though I would see spin out brought out several cautions for being backwards in the corners. It would turn out to be a long night for everyone.

Paul managed to win a pole start in the first heat after drawing the six pill. He maintained the lead through half of the race, but would ultimately fall victim to hard charging Jacob Davis in the J21 car. Paul followed him for the next two laps until deciding to run the high line out of desperation. This played to his favor as he bit the cushion coming out of turn four and made a last lap pass to take the win.

Cheater had a front row start in the feature. As the green flag dropped, the field made their way into turn one. The other front row starter dropped down in front of Paul. Contact would cut down Paul’s right-front tire and send him to a halt in turn three just as another car slammed into his driver-side door. He took to the pits in order to get the flat changed and would return to the race dead last. For the remainder of the race Paul battled with three other cars before settling into the seventh position just as the checkered flag came out.

Paul is returning to Malden this Friday with the topless outlaw modifieds.

Close, but no cigar. (Video)

It was a great night for racing at the Malden Speedway on Friday, June 11. The MSRA Super Late Model series was in town along with 20+ Supers which included the likes of Dane Dacus, Jeff Floyd, and Wendell Wallace. The weather turned out perfect for racing. It was overcast all day long with a slight chance of rain. Five minutes of sprinkles was all the track witnessed.

Paul picked up the third starting spot in his heat, but was unable to better his chances at the win and finished third. The last feature of the night was in fact the Modifieds. The track was locked down thanks to the Late Models, which allowed for three wide racing. Paul jumped to the third position before the caution came out on lap six. He restarted on the outside, which at this point was the fastest groove. He cleared the second place car to take the position when the caution waved for the final time.

Paul had to start on the inside on the restart, but quickly made work of heat winner Jacob Davis after a two-lap side-by-side battle. Sitting comfortably in second, Paul began to make his charge to the front. He was soon on the back bumper of leader Jacob Cooper, Paul running the top and Cooper running the bottom. With a third season win in Paul’s sights, the checkered flag fell and ended the race abruptly. Jacob would win his first race by a mere four car-lengths.

Team Reeder sends their congratulations to the Cooper Racing Team!
