The USCS Touring Series made their usual stop at the Malden Speedway on Friday, July 2nd. On tap for the night were the Sprint Cars, the Outlaw Modifieds, and a grand finale fireworks show. The night started off with a bang, no pun intended, as over twenty Modifieds were in attendance for the twenty-five lap feature.
The cars were divided into three heats with Paul picking up a third place start in the second. He and Chris Moore in the #17 got tangled on lap two, which resulted in Chris retiring to the pits. The race continued without another caution as Paul and leader Robert Powers checked out from the field. Robert began to have trouble in the turns and was slowly losing his lead on Paul. Paul went in deep in turn one and nearly passed Robert, but would have to settle for second.
The top four cars were inverted in the feature, but that had no effect on Paul’s fifth place start. As the leaders began to check out, Paul found himself in a hard battle for the sixth position. Another car then came into the picture and would pass Cheater for sixth, holding on to that position for several laps. As the caution-free race started to wind down to its last laps, last place starter Chris Moore managed to reach Paul and challenge him for another position. Front-runner Jason Hughes in the #8H slowed to idle speed with four laps to go and ran the bottom for the remainder of the race. This and passing the #24 of Kenny Lovins would earn Paul two positions to finish the race sixth.
